About the run
Why a women's marathon?
Magalir Sakthi means women's strength. This run puts women — homemakers, students, working women, self-help groups — at the front of a public event in Avinashi, with the whole community running alongside them.
It is free so that nobody is left out. Every runner gets a T-shirt, a medal, a certificate and refreshments; winners in the timed categories share ₹75,000 in cash prizes.
We The Leaders — Avinashi
We The Leaders (WTL) is a volunteer movement in the Avinashi Assembly constituency that brings people together for community initiatives — clean-ups, youth programmes, women's leadership circles and events like this marathon. This run is organised entirely by volunteers.
This run is Avinashi's contribution to We The Leaders' October theme. Every registration, every volunteer and every cheering family on the route is a public statement that women's safety, confidence and opportunity belong on the town's main street.

The event is run on a not-for-profit basis. Support received goes towards T-shirts, medals, refreshments, safety and medical arrangements for the runners. Any surplus goes to WTL's women's leadership programmes in Avinashi.
